What’s so nice about a Friday night? Well, besides the long-awaited start of the weekend, it also provides YMCMB/Republic’s Drake with an opportunity to surprise everyone with a new single (and then, of course, we all freaked out about it.) Released around 11PM on Friday, “Nice For What” quickly surged to #1 on Apple Music and iTunes, knocking Cardi B out of the top spot. At the latter service, the single has outsold the title at #2 by a 2-to-1 ratio for most of its run at the top, while “God’s Plan” continues its run in the top ten at both platforms. As of the new Wednesday update on Spotify, “Nice” is also doing nicely at #1 on the U.S. and Global lists, with its highest one-day totals so far: just below 5.774 million streams around the world, 3.087 million of which originated in the States. (To date, the song has earned over 20.9 million plays.) A video for the song, featuring a star-studded cast, remains on YouTube’s Trending list with a total close to 16 million views, as strong tagging for the release leads to a high #14 entry on Shazam’s U.S. list, and a #2 debut on the Future Hits list, going past 185,000 tags in the last week. Does “Nice” have the momentum to replace “Plan” at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100? Only God knows this one. (Images courtesy of Young Money/Cash Money and Republic Records)
