As “Barbie” returns to her home on the national charts, we’re sure Ken and Skipper were thrilled by the news, spending countless days on Apple Music and Spotify to join in the streaming party. Luckily, several million more fans are also making musical magic. YMCMB/Republic’s Nicki Minaj is all dolled up for her latest era, returning last Thursday with a pair of winners across several platforms: “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li”, both from her upcoming studio album. Debuting that afternoon, the two hits delivered a one-two punch at iTunes, with “Chun-Li” leading “Barbie” by a small margin, though two versions of the latter tune (explicit and clean) appeared in the top ten simultaneously. At Apple Music, the two songs blasted into the top ten shortly after debuting, with “Chun-Li” charting in the top five (currently at #7 vs. “Barbie” at #17.) The situation is similar on Shazam, where “Chun-Li” has a nice debut at #28 and #6 on the U.S. and Future Hits charts, respectively, while “Barbie” is just behind, coming in at #47 and #8. However, the reverse is true at Spotify, as “Barbie” (#24 U.S./#48 Global) places ahead of “Chun-Li” (#36 U.S./#62 Global) in the charts race. Regardless of song preference, we’re glad tingz are looking up for Minaj. (Images courtesy of YMCMB and Republic Records)
