Record royalty strikes the heart of the charts again, as one of the current kings of collaborations, Right Hand/RCA’s Khalid, gives us two new reasons to be a fan of the man. Last week, the young singer dropped “OTW”, an acronym for “on the way”, with 6LACK and Ty Dolla $ign, as well as “lovely”, a duet led by Darkroom/Interscope’s Billie Eilish. It shouldn’t be a surprise that both singles climbed into the top 20 on iTunes upon release, “OTW” peaking at #7 and “lovely” at #19, with minor to moderate action at Apple Music, the former now at #29 and the latter at #95. (Khalid, as a main performer or in a featured role, is responsible for seven of the top 200 singles on the latter list.) The results on Spotify’s Global chart were similar, with the former (#57, 1.601 mil.) outpacing the latter (#109, 963k) by a significant margin during their first day of availability. Nevertheless, Khalid’s duet with Normani, “Love Lies”, has the best momentum across the major platforms like Apple Music (#56 U.S.), Shazam (#35 U.S.) and Spotify (#16 Global, #24 U.S.), as it surpasses 180 million streams at the lattermost service and 34 million views on YouTube. For a guy who once sang “Location”, he sure can locate a hit. (Images courtesy of Darkroom/Interscope and Right Hand/RCA Records)
