Though summer temperatures have arrived in parts of the U.S. this week, even they fall short of this scorcher an era from Syco/Epic’s Camila Cabello. Several weeks ago, her solo set Camila was certified Platinum in the U.S., just three months after its release. Now, as her current single “Never Be The Same” approaches the top spot on the Top 40 radio survey, a new version has emerged, featuring RCA Nashville country star Kane Brown. Given the two fanbases between these soloists, it zoomed to #1 on iTunes in no time, and after being replaced temporarily, it surged back to the top spot. In fact, the hit leaped to #1 in ten of the 40+ countries where it entered the all-genre list, which is impressive since Brown is largely unknown outside of North America. To date, the new version has only appeared in the lower rungs on Spotify’s main U.S. chart and its Viral equivalent, but it has passed 1.6 million streams worldwide at the service with the help of notable New Music Friday and pop playlisting. With the sheer amount of country artists breaking in the pop world this year, and vice versa, there’s definitely potential for Brown’s crossover endeavors, or Cabello dabbling further in the country music world, as 2018 continues.
