A couple of weeks back, we noted that Right Hand/RCA’s Khalid was participating in a growing number of collaborations that continue to perform well on the sales and streaming lists. Now, the inevitable has happened: it’s time to add another song to that impressive repertoire. A new single from the upcoming self-titled album by Island’s Shawn Mendes features the popular R&B singer, and it’s certainly driving the youth to have a listen across different services. Upon release last Thursday, “Youth” surged to #1 on iTunes in the U.S., following “In My Blood” as the second chart-topper from Mendes’s current era. In fact, the song led the all-genre survey in nearly two dozen of the over 80 countries it charted in, a slightly higher total than that of “Lost In Japan” when it debuted several weeks ago. The hit currently stands at #10 on the Global and U.S. Viral charts on Spotify, quickly surging over 11 million plays, with daily totals still exceeding 1.6 million streams worldwide. The song also remains in the top 75 on Apple Music’s overall list, putting it a fair distance ahead of “Blood”. With a solid 28,000 tags on Shazam and a substantial 9.5 million views on YouTube, Mendes’s new hit and youthful era will continue to age gracefully. (Images courtesy of Island Records)
