Two of the more prominent music competition programs ended their current seasons earlier this week, as ABC’s American Idol and NBC’s The Voice named new winners who are off to a good start on the sales and streaming charts. On Monday evening, it was the former that crowned Hollywood’s Maddie Poppe as the newest Idol, as her coronation song “Going Going Gone” got as high as #3 on iTunes’s all-genre list. Additionally, her independent 2016 EP, Songs From The Basement, has re-emerged at #7 on the album chart, as one of the cuts from it, “Don’t Ever Let Your Children Grow Up”, which Poppe performed on the show, managed a new peak of #72 on the songs chart. Furthermore, “Going” has 89,000 plays on Spotify and its static video has 134,000 views on YouTube. A day later, Republic’s Brynn Cartelli was named the new Voice of the land, with her original tune “Walk My Way” flying to #1 on iTunes. It marks one of three songs she currently has in the top 40 at the service, while an album of songs she performed on the show also heads toward the top 40 on the album list. A live video from the finale of the show currently has over 325,000 views on YouTube, which will likely rise as the day continues. With both seasons concluded, we’ll see how this pair of soloists thrive in the industry. (Images courtesy of Hollywood and Republic Records)
