2018 has given us plenty of fresh performers on the horizon, and at Whale Report HQ, we’re all about searching those chart waters for the next big catch before they take over the music world. This week, we come to a fast decision on a slow entry for our new artist pick, as Artist Partner’s Alec Benjamin debuts his latest streaming winner, “Let Me Down Slowly”. A few years ago, Benjamin was signed to Columbia Records, which released his single “Paper Crown” back in the fall of 2014. Since then, his pair of independent tracks, 2016’s “End Of The Summer” and 2017’s “I Built A Friend”, have received over nine million streams combined at Spotify, with help from strong pop playlisting both domestically and abroad. Benjamin’s latest song could become his biggest streaming hit to date, and go the distance at other platforms, as it debuts at #19 and #25 on Spotify’s most recent U.S. and Global Viral list updates, respectively. Playlist support for “Let” is solid across both Spotify (New Music Friday, Pop Rising, etc.) and Apple Music (Best of the Week, The A-List Pop, etc.), with additional growth at YouTube, where an official lyric video is closing in on 150,000 views. From building friends to building hits, Benjamin’s ready for more. (Images courtesy of Artist Partner Group and Atlantic Records)
