London-born newcomer and 10 Summers/Interscope performer Ella Mai has one of the hottest records of the summer with “Boo’d Up”. The single, which was recently certified Platinum here, has garnered over 42.4 million streams on Spotify, 1.34 million tags on Shazam and 116.3 million views on YouTube, all without a remix or extra gimmick. In fact, Mai’s EP Ready is nearing 77 million plays overall at Spotify since its release this year, so there are plenty of songs ready to smash as 2018 continues. As “Boo’d” places just under the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, currently at #7, the song is now likely to make it in with the debut of a new version featuring YMCMB/Republic’s Nicki Minaj and Quality Control/Motown’s Quavo. The two versions are charting concurrently on iTunes in the U.S., the remix going as high as #15 and the original hit back-to-back at #16, as the new release enters the all-genre list in 40 other territories around the world. (The original also ranks at #30 on Apple Music.) The new version is also off to a solid start on YouTube, where fans of all three acts have lifted a static clip over a million views in under a day. Regardless of which version comes in higher in the future, it’s all “Up” from here. (Images courtesy of 10 Summers and Interscope Records)
