Cruising down the hit highway towards another giant record, Interscope’s OneRepublic is firmly on the gas pedal with their new release called “Connection”. The song’s main source of connection is a major sync through Fiat Chrysler and their new Summer of Jeep campaign, with nearly 8,500 tags on Shazam to date through subsequent airings of the advertisement. Now, it’s performing elsewhere in the music world. Currently at #13 on iTunes in the U.S., the song made the all-genre chart in 53 countries since it debuted, reaching the top ten in 14. It’s also picked up around 700,000 views on YouTube and 2.3 million streams on Spotify in about a week’s time. At this point, those totals are nowhere near their larger hits of several years past, but the song’s off to a good start nonetheless. Playlisting is solid at both the latter service and at Apple Music, with adds on lists like New Music Friday, Pop Rising and Singled Out (with the group on the cover) at the former, and Best of The Week and Charm at the latter. Though the song hasn’t been sent to radio as of yet, the support from that platform, along with the Jeep spot’s consistent play on both television and the internet (at 80,000 views so far on YouTube), should fuel the hit for a new trip.
