If you heard the latest single from Republic’s Ariana Grande and said, “Holy hit!”, then you weren’t alone. Featured on her upcoming album Sweetener, due August 17, “God is a woman” reached a divine peak of #2 on iTunes in the U.S., with labelmate Drake (via YMCMB) continuing his strong hold on the top spot with the viral smash “In My Feelings”. “God” proved to be a powerful release around the world, entering the all-genre charts in 103 countries, while securing the #1 position in 37 of them. The single surged into the top ten on Spotify’s U.S. and Global surveys, holding there since the end of last week, with a higher peak position on the latter list (#2) than the former (#4). It’s also performing very well at Apple Music, where it stands at #18 overall, spurred by a variety of pop playlists, and Shazam, debuting at #19 on the current Future Hits list update with 55,000+ tags to date. Most of all, a music video for the song remains potent on YouTube; both it and a lyric video for “God” reached the top ten on the Trending chart, the former at 31.1 million views and the latter at 9.2 million to date. As the hit’s airplay continues to ascend and its video spreads ahead of the album release, Grande’s results are even sweeter. (Images courtesy of Republic Records and YouTube / Ariana Grande)
