The dancing queens and kings of the world are making some new moves on the dancefloor and up the charts, as the Capitol soundtrack to Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again starts solidly ahead of the film’s release on Friday. Of course, this is the sequel to 2008’s Mamma Mia! and the set consists exclusively of ABBA covers, performed by the movie’s stars. Upon release, the soundtrack got to #4 on iTunes in the U.S., with similar chart success elsewhere. In total, 54 of the 66 countries where it entered the all-genre tally at the platform reported a top five peak. Many of those same charts also saw re-entries for the original soundtrack and ABBA’s set Gold: Greatest Hits in the upper regions of the list: in the U.S., all three collections rank in the top 15 currently, with the 2018 and 2008 collections back-to-back at #5 and #6, respectively.
On the songs side, there are no less than three versions of the movie’s title cut in the top 500 on iTunes, including the original version by the band and two soundtrack versions, as another three versions of “Dancing Queen” are present there. With 5.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify and 1.91 million tags on Shazam for “Dancing” and “Mamma” alone, ABBA’s winners are taking it all! (Images courtesy of Capitol Records)
