2018 has given us plenty of fresh performers on the horizon, and at Whale Report HQ, we’re all about searching those chart waters for the next big catch before they take over the music world. Our next selection is a talented writer and producer that’s worked with some of the top names in the business, though he hasn’t yet made his debut as an artist… that is, until last week. Headed up the charts in a big way, “Eastside” marks the first song by Friends Keep Secrets/Interscope’s benny blanco, along with Astralwerks/Capitol’s Halsey and Right Hand/RCA’s Khalid. Upon debut, the collaboration got as high as #18 on iTunes in the U.S., and still ranks in the top 20, while also hitting the all-genre chart in a total of 59 countries. On Spotify, the single is a streaming winner, holding at #1 on both the U.S. and Global Viral surveys. Buoyed by wide New Music Friday and pop playlisting, including the influential Today’s Top Hits, “Eastside” has accumulated over eight million plays to date at the service. It’s also at #63 on Apple Music’s main list, aided by similar playlisting. The song is also generating interest on Shazam, landing at #12 on the Future Hits list with 47,000 tags.
