Some hitchhikers believe that the answer to life is 42, but on the ride to the top, the answer may actually be 45. Why 45? Well, when it comes to BigHit’s BTS, the galaxy is full of all the new records and chart takeovers you can think of. Last week, the septet debuted their latest set, LOVE YOURSELF 結 'Answer', and its most reactive cut so far, “IDOL”, now holds a new first-day record at YouTube with more than 45 million views worldwide (and is now well over 100 million in about five days.) It’s merely the cherry on top of what’s already been a fantastic era for the act: “IDOL” charted at #1 and #2 (in a Nicki Minaj-assisted version) on iTunes upon release, making the all-genre chart in 101 and 96 countries, respectively. Additionally, the album reached #1 at the platform on Friday, and topped the equivalent chart in 76 of the 93 territories it debuted in. In fact, on release day, the K-pop group controlled the entire top 12 songs on iTunes for several hours, an incredible result that we don’t often see. At the larger streaming services, a solid amount of playlisting has also played into the act’s big week; at Spotify alone, their set’s 26 tracks (which includes some cuts from their previous album) are responsible for an amazing 788 million streams on Spotify with the help of influential pop and K-pop lists. “LOVE” is all we crave.
