Late last month, Keep Cool/RCA’s Normani splashed around the charts with two songs that featured production work by Columbia’s Calvin Harris: “Slow Down”, which went to #37 on iTunes in the U.S., and the Wizkid-assisted “Checklist”, peaking at #21. Going a bit higher on iTunes, we have her latest single, the 6LACK-assisted “Waves”, landing at #8 on the all-genre chart at the end of last week before dropping. Globally, the song reached the same chart in 50 countries at the service, a smaller total than “Checklist” (62) achieved, but over what “Slow” (44) garnered during the same period. At Spotify, where the tune has received adds on New Music Friday lists globally and notable support in the pop and rhythmic genres, “Waves” crashes ashore with a solid 1.8 million streams thus far. However, an audio-only video checks in with a smaller 740,000 views on YouTube, while it’s earned a mere 4,000 tags on Shazam. With the singer’s increased profile earlier this year for the Khalid duet “Love Lies” and all her success with Fifth Harmony, can Normani ride a larger wave into next year? We’ll see!
