If you haven’t seen the awesome video for “thank u, next” by Republic’s Ariana Grande yet, you’re probably living under a rock. The clip, which debuted last week, includes a number of references to films like Bring It On, Mean Girls and others. Given the tune’s history of breaking records over the last few weeks, including several at Spotify upon release, you knew that it was bound to break some on YouTube as well. In its first 24 hours alone, “thank” scored a gigantic 55.4 million views at the service and eclipsed 100 million in just under 3-1/2 days, which are both new records for those respective time periods. After a few days atop the Trending list, it holds in the lower rungs of the survey with about 124 million views through Wednesday evening. Needless to say, it’s the cherry on top of a massive pop sundae: “thank” remains strong at #1 on iTunes and Spotify in the U.S., accumulating more than 244.6 million streams at the latter, #2 on Apple Music and inside the top 30 on Shazam, now at 463,000 tags. Where’s the “Next” record?
