The holiday break is always a great time to catch up on those films you’ve been waiting to watch in theaters or stream online, and plenty of musical movies with popular soundtracks are climbing on the charts as a result. Notably, it’s the soundtrack to 2017’s The Greatest Showman in the lead on iTunes in the U.S., which is still charting at the platform in over 55 countries, with the set from 2018’s A Star Is Born at #2, with chart action in about 60. Currently, both albums are featured in a year-end deep discounting campaign, which sees the two titles (on Atlantic and Interscope, respectively) priced at $6.99. Several spots lower, the soundtrack to the Walt Disney film Mary Poppins Returns checks in at #7, having peaked at #4 just under a week ago. It remains active in about two dozen countries on iTunes and saw a good box office spike over the holidays. At Spotify, the first two soundtracks have earned combined totals of 1.7 billion and 735 million streams, respectively, while the third has some catching up to do with about 6.8 million at the service. Will these top sets have staying power through the awards season? We’ll see soon! (Images courtesy of Walt Disney and Atlantic Records)
